BOX CONTENTS FOR WEEK OF OCTOBER 19 - 25:

1.25 lbs Sifra Potatoes
1 lb Watermelon Daikon
.50 lb Baby Arugula
1 bu Rapini
1 pc Yellow Canary Melon
2 pcs Pomegranates
Farm Notes:

Well, we finally got our first rain of the season! With that comes a few challenges. For one, we have to keep a close eye on some of our more rain-sensitive crops, like tomatoes. How much longer we’ll be able to harvest really depends on how much rain we get and how the plants hold up.
It also hinders what we can get done in the fields. There’s only so much you can do when the ground is soaked! We had to put a pause on transplanting, but we’ll continue next week as the weather clears up. Chicories and leeks are up next!
Thank you,

Exciting/New in your box this week:
Sifra Potatoes:
Great roasted, boiled, steamed, or mashed. Though their rich, creamy texture stands out in soups. A great way to use them is in a simple roast, like in these Lemon Roast Potatoes.
Watermelon Daikon:
Crisp and refreshing with a mild, slightly peppery flavor. Enjoy it thinly sliced in salads, as a garnish, or lightly pickled. It can also be roasted or sautéed for a milder flavor and tender texture.
Arugula:
Bold, peppery flavor with a noticeable bitterness that sets it apart from milder greens. It’s sharp, with subtle mustardy and nutty notes that add depth, especially alongside rich or savory ingredients. Use it in pasta, salads with olive oil and lemon, blend it into pesto, scatter it over pizza, or layer it into sandwiches and wraps.
Rapini:
Bold, slightly bitter flavor. It’s best enjoyed cooked. You can steam, sauté, or braise it. It pairs especially well with garlic, olive oil, chili flakes, and parmesan. Sauté it as a side dish or add it to pasta, soups, pizzas, and stir-fries! Quick tip: cook fast to retain its crisp texture; overcooking can make it mushy!
Yellow Canary Melon:
Smooth, yellow skin and a flavor reminiscent of a pear. They’re perfect for slicing and enjoying fresh or wrapping with prosciutto and basil. But have you ever tried grilling your melon? Bay Area chef Dominique Crenn shares a recipe featuring grilled canary melon with a mix of savory, spicy, and sweet flavors. Give it a try!
Pomegranates:
Sweet and tart with juicy, tangy seeds. Delicious eaten fresh, sprinkled over salads, stirred into yogurt, or blended into smoothies. If you’ve ever struggled to get the seeds out, check out this video for an easy extraction method!
