Cilantro:

Cilantro is one of those love it or hate it herbs- I'm personally a fan. It brings a bright, fresh, citrusy vibe that instantly wakes up any dish! Sprinkle the leaves over soups, curries, stir-fries, rice bowls, tacos, noodle dishes, or guacamole. Blend it into pesto, hot sauce, creamy dips, salsa, or marinades and dressings. Tip: To keep your bunch fresh, stand it in a jar with a little water and loosely cover with a bag- it’ll stay perky for about a week.

Nantes Carrots:

Our Nantes carrots are sweet, tender, and pulled young by hand for the best flavor. These French heirlooms have smooth skin and a crisp bite, way better than the woody carrots you find at the store. Enjoy them raw with hummus, sliced into salads, or roasted to bring out their natural sweetness. They’re also great for juicing! Store in the fridge without the greens and use within a couple of weeks for the freshest taste. Tip: Don’t toss the carrot tops! They make a great pesto, like this one from CSA member Frances Kellar.

Butternut Squash:

This delicious squash has a rich, natural sweetness that can’t be beat! It becomes tender and slightly caramelized when roasted, but also works well baked, steamed, sautéed, braised, or grilled. Butternut squash shines in warming soups like this simple recipe from CSA member and culinary professional Rosemary Mark. It's also equally as delicious in gnocchi, pies, casseroles, and pasta-inspired dishes, where its smooth texture and sweet flavor really stands out.

Purple Daikon:

Our purple daikon's bring a splash of color to any meal! Their mild sweetness paired with a delightful crunch makes them a versatile addition to any meal. Whether you're using them in a salad or as a garnish on a cheese plate. They’re also perfect for adding to bahn mi sandwiches or even homemade kimchi.

Leeks:

Leeks have a mild, slightly sweet flavor that’s way more delicate than onions or garlic. The entire thing is edible, though the white and light green portions are the most tender and flavorful. Once cooked, leeks turn soft and silky. They bring a mellow, savory sweetness to dishes without being too overpowering. They’re perfect for soups, stews, braises, and broths. Leeks really shine in classics like potato leek soup, quiches, sautés, and stir-fries. These leeks are ideal for roasting or grilling. Their mildness also makes them an excellent choice for raw preparations like salads.

Broccoli:

Broccoli has a crisp texture when raw and becomes tender when cooked, with a flavor that is slightly bitter and earthy, yet mild and nutty. Perfect for roasting, sautéing, baking, or simply steaming. Broccoli makes a delicious, nutrient-dense addition to any raw veggie platter and doubles as a cozy, roasted side when tossed with herbs and a splash of olive oil! The outside caramelizes just a bit and the core is still crunchy if you nail it right.

Gold Oak Mandarins:

This week you received either Tango or Gold Nugget mandarins. Do you notice a difference? I find the Gold Nuggets have the best texture, while the Tangos tend to be a bit sweeter. Both are juicy with a rich citrus flavor! Perfect for snacking or adding a bright citrus kick to salads, desserts, or savory dishes. Grab them while you can! They come from Gold Oak Ranch, a farm built on a 20-year partnership between Jose Luis Melendez and David Scheuring.
